EXTERIOR
Quite the design revolution the CLS would be launched to international praise by press and public alike. An avantgarde solution to standard profiles of the time, the shape would challenge convention and offer a genuine saloon car dimension with coupe dynamics. The Iridium Silver paint on this example shows impeccably well throughout whilst chrome accents to badging, grilles and window frames present without wear or corrosion.

Mercedes calls the crease line that starts above the front wheel arch a ‘dropping line’ – reminiscent of older Mercedes sports cars from the days long before monocoque bodies.

INTERIOR
Body-hugging bucket seats offer fantastic lateral support with Alcantara suede trim, piping and double stitching on the Nappa leather add a touch of sporting luxury. The Alcantara wheel is the instant giveaway of the lauded Performance pack; soft to the touch and without any significant signs of wear. The contour of the seats retain an original integrity with bolsters free of wear, marks or stains whilst the flowing dash arrangement presents clean and tidy with switch gear clear and easy to operate. Adjustable Airmatic suspension allows the driver to switch between 3 settings below the gear selector.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The supercharged V8 further established an AMG foothold in the early horse power battles between the big three German manufacturers BMW, Audi and Mercedes. The M113 unit is mated to the Speedshift 5-speed automatic transmission, which has a monstrous torque capacity of 796 lb·ft. The reaction of the charged engine can be adjusted with gearbox settings and a wheel mounted manual override, suiting a variety of different demands and requirements.

The incredibly rare 030 Performance pack features a Drexler Locking differential; a key drivetrain component that transforms the feel and balance of this epic Affalterbach special. This 55’s powertrain is incredibly broad with a tall fifth gear keeps the engine’s supercharger and exhaust tone from becoming intrusive.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Airmatic suspension is standard on the CLS 55, the ride height set 10mm lower on 19 inch option wheels that bulge to fill the arches beautifully. These 030 option specific split rim alloys remain in pristine condition wrapped in Bridgestone rubber. An alternative set of lightweight BBS wheels are also available.

The Performance pack extends to the braking system with bigger discs in the front – 380mm instead of 360mm – whilst they are also appreciably lighter with less unsprung mass on the the front axle – 12,8kg instead of 15,6kg per disc.

Registered in April of 2006 this CLS has enjoyed the careful custodianship of the same family throughout it’s life.
