Description

1970 Lola-Chevrolet T222 Sports Racing Can-Am Spider
• Chassis No. HU222/02 – Wearing Red L&M Livery – #26
The Lola T222, introduced in late 1970, is a further development and refinement of the long wheelbase of the T220 campaigned in the 1970 Can-Am Season. The improvements included modification to the suspension geometry, bodywork and other subtle changes designed to make the T220 one of the finest Can-Am cars available in 1971.
This beautifully-presented historic Can-Am sports-racing car began life as the replacement long-wheelbase T220/222 prototype machine campaigned in the latter part of the 1970 Can-Am Championship by subsequent series champion Peter Revson. This charismatic American superstar driver had escaped without serious injury from an accident which wrote-off the L7M-backed quasi-works teams preceding short-wheelbase Lola T220 car at Road Atlanta in Round 7 of the 1970 series.
This new car featured a wheelbase lengthened by no fewer than 10 inches and it was first fielded for Peter Revson to drive in the following events:
1970 Can-Am Championship (bearing race number 26):
• Round 8 - Donnybrooke 9/27/70 – Peter Revson (Qualified Pole – Finished Third)
• Round 9 - Laguna Seca 10/18/70 - Peter Revson (Qualified Third – Finished Third)
• Round 10 - Riverside 11/1/70 - Peter Revson (Qualified Third – DNF Overheating)
1970 Can-Am Championship Points: Peter Revson, Lola-Chevrolet T220/T222 - Eight place - 39 points
