Description
The Dino 308 Gt4 is certainly like no other Ferrari. It was the first 8-cylinder mid-engine Ferrari, the first and only Ferrari not designed by Pininfarina since ‘53', only Ferrari by Bertone, penned by Marcello Gandini. It's also a 2+2, the first mid-engined 2+2 in history (and the only one, at least until the Lotus Evora). The 2.9-liter aluminum engine is indeed descended from the 1964 World Champion Type 158 with John Surtees, but also from the Colombo 12-cylinder engine fitted to the Daytona. Bore and stroke are in fact identical to the 12, 81 x 71 mm. Developed by Franco Rocchi and Angelo Bellei, it has two valves per cylinder and for the first time abandons chain distribution in favor of belts. It produces 255hp at 7,700 RPM when new.
An important Ferrari which is going to evaluate more in the future, it was relatively affordable 15 years ago but now it has been rediscovered it has suddenly doubled and in some cases tripled the value.
This particular car has a peculiar story, being one of the last to leave the factory in Maranello, produced in 1976 it was sold by the factory only in 1981, believed to be one of the last two who found a customer. It has some of the features of a US model car like the front and rear bumpers, but it has never been to North America. Original Italian car with original tools it is certified ASI Targa Oro. It is amazing to drive, like all the 308 GT4, it makes a wonderful V8 noise and it’s ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
