Fresh out of a comprehensive 2,500 hour ‘body off’ restoration completed in 2019, Richards of England are proud to offer this 1971 Aston Martin DBSV8 (LHD). Fully restored to Concours condition and finished in its original colours of ‘Cricket White’ paint over ‘House of Commons Green’ Connolly leather. This is the only DBS V8 to have ever been painted in this elegant colour combination at factory, making 10345/LCA a 1 of 1 example.

The Aston Martin DBS V8 is now beginning to climb in value across the entire model range. A generation that once saw the DBS V8 as their “dream car” are now finally at an age when they can afford to buy into that dream. Originally intended to house the Tadek Marek-designed V8, the DBS initially appeared with the same 4.0-litre six as housed in the DB6. Designed by Bill Towns, the four-seater DBS changed the look of David Brown’s brand. The softer shapes of the previous DB cars were scrapped, and a new muscular modern look was born.

The new larger and luxurious style of the DBS did originally lower the performance, with its predecessor remaining the quicker of the two models. However, when the V8 engine was introduced in 1969 everything changed. The DBS V8 increased power to an estimated 345bhp. This stemmed from its 5,340cc Bosch fuel-injected four-cam motor and meant the DBS V8 could reach 100mph in under 14 seconds. Combined with its unbelievable top speed of 160mph, the DBS V8 became known as the fastest production car in the world. Even with automatic transmission, the V8 could reach 100mph in around 15 seconds and better 145mph flat-out. Speeds unheard of during its time.

This Motor Car

Arguably the best example of a DBSV8 in the world, DBSV8/10345/LCA is brought to market boasting an interesting history. Originally owned by Mr Rex Woodgate (CEO of Aston Martin USA / Aston Works racing team), the car was sold to gentleman in 1976 following a 5-year ownership. With very little in the history folder about this owner, we knew little about him, that was until out of the blue he approached us at Salon Privé and exclaimed “that’s my car!” After much conversation he filled in many of the blanks about his ownership. This included the explanation behind a “hot start button” fitted to the car. It turns out this was custom installed by Aston Martin USA to try and resolve a hot start issue he was having at the time. We resolved the issue correctly during the restoration and the button is no longer required, however it adds an interesting tale about this car’s history.

Following this the DBS V8 was sold to the USA, before being purchased by a Mr Dimmeler, an associate of ours who lived in Switzerland at the time. Of whom entrusted a specialist in Germany to disassemble the car and had planned to complete the restoration himself. However, upon hearing about the car, we inspected and sourced the car for another client of ours. This client purchased the DBS following the disassembly stage and entrusted us with the restoration. We have since transformed DBSV8/10345/LCA into a Concours winning car having scored 97.5 out of 100 at a Concours D’ Elegance event.
