EXTERIOR
Clearly crafted to achieve maximum velocity along the infamous Mulsanne Straight, the sweeping, low slung curves of this DBR1 recreation perfectly embody a golden age of aerodynamic innovation. Built with an incredible level of attention to detail this Evanta produced car looks utterly superb – supposedly 15 swatches were created to perfectly match the traditional shade of Aston Martin Racing Green that adorns the cars gorgeous bodywork, whilst the tubular chassis was also painted in an almost “duck egg” finish to match that of the legendary £20+ million race car.
Having covered just 3k miles since the build was completed in 2013 condition of the car is fantastic. Paintwork shows with a deep metallic shine across the Aston’s classic curves with no major blemishes to note, whilst the panel gaps and fitment remain consistent around the car highlighting the superior quality of Evanta’s GRP panels.
INTERIOR
Stepping into the confined interior of the DBR1 makes clear the racing intentions of the cars designers, with everything deemed unessential removed to create a focused and lightweight space. Entering the car is made easier by the quick release boss on the thin rimmed wooden steering wheel whilst modern Willians 4-point harnesses make sure both occupants are securely anchored into position.
Furthering the impressive level of detail in the build Evanta sourced a heavy green fabric which very closely matches the upholstery of the original DRB1 bucket seats and painstakingly hand painted the metal dashboard with layers of green and black paint to achieve the correct “crackle” finish.
Designed to be used rather than stored in a garage this DBR1 comes fitted with a host of useful features including a map light for the passenger on longer road rally stages, internal/external emergency kill switches and a fire extinguisher in the passenger footwell.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Originally fitted with a 3.8L engine the owner of this DBR1 was a keen driver and soon sourced a newer, more powerful unit. Said to have cost in excess of £14k the 4.2l high compression Jaguar straight-6 runs on a triple webber 45 set up and is connected to a Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox. Output is shown by a dyno read taken around the time of installation, showing 203 bhp and 291 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm which is more than enough to make the featherweight DBR1 feel rapid on the track or road.
More impressive still is the raw noise of the engine, courtesy of the side exit exhaust system, which sounds like a fully fledged race car than a descendant of luxurious the E-Type.
Despite the cars minimal mileage servicing and maintenance has been carried out to ensure the drivetrain remains in the best possible order, with almost £10k spent at specialists including Heritage Autowerks since the car has been on the road.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Neatly nestled beneath the Aston’s flowing arches the silver painted 16″ wire spoke wheels and chrome knock off hub caps complete the period style of this stunning car and present in fantastic condition, free from any signs or chips or fading. Matching Michelin Pilote X tyres adorn each corner, with good tread remaining all around.
Thankfully braking is taken care of by a more modern disc set up, including 4 piston Girling callipers at the front which do a superb job of bringing the car to a halt.
