En 1963, alors qu’Alfa Romeo et Zagato collaborent sur la fabuleuse Giulia TZ1, légère et agile, Alfa perçoit le potentiel d’une véritable voiture de sport haut de gamme basée sur la 2600 et son nouveau moteur six cylindres en ligne à double arbre à cames.

Après plusieurs mois de développement et de nombreuses interventions du service commercial d’Alfa Romeo, le designer d’Zagato, Ercole Spada, présente au Salon de Francfort 1965 une version finale alliant un avant futuriste aux formes arrondies et l’arrière typique « Coda Tronca ». En trois ans, seulement 105 exemplaires verront le jour.

Cet exemplaire, vendu neuf en Belgique et certifié par Alfa Romeo Classiche, provient de la collection du responsable Brand & Heritage de Zagato. De magnifiques photographies d’époque en noir et blanc datant de 1975 montrent cette 2600 SZ dans la station balnéaire de Knokke.

Le dossier complet accompagnant la voiture retrace l’historique précis des propriétaires belges successifs et comprend un reportage photographique exceptionnel de sa restauration « nut and bolt », ramenant la voiture à sa configuration d’origine tout en conservant le très bel intérieur en vinyle noir.

Récemment, cette Alfa Romeo a bénéficié d’une remise en peinture et d’une révision moteur réalisées par des spécialistes Zagato de longue date. L’usine Zagato elle-même a utilisé ce modèle parfaitement préservé pour promouvoir ses créations modernes lors de séances photos comparatives, mettant en avant les traits distinctifs du design Zagato.

At the same time when in 1963 Alfa Romeo and Zagato joined forces for the fabulous, light and nimble Giulia TZ1, Alfa sees the potential for a truly fast, upper-class sportscar based on the top of the range 2600 with the new straight six-cylinder twin overhead cam engine. After a long gestation, due to constant interference from Alfa Romeo’s commercial department, Zagato designer Ercole Spada comes-up at the 1965 Frankfurt Motorshow with a final design combining a futuristic rounded front with the typical CodaTronca rear end. In 3 years’ time only 105 examples will be produced. This car comes out of the collection of the Zagato’s Brand & Heritage manager (PdT), but was sold new in Belgium, as is certified by an Alfa Romeo Classiche certificate. Charming period black/white photographs from 1975 show this 2600SZ with Belgian numberplates in the seaside resort of Knokke. A voluminous documentation file contains communication about successive Belgian owners and an impressive photographic report with hundreds of photographs showing a meticulous nut and bolt restoration, bringing the car back to original specification, but with preservation of the still very nice original black vinyl interior. Last but not least this Alfa Romeo benefitted recently from a cosmetic respray and an engine overhaul by long term Zagato specialists, which enabled the Zagato factory to use this very neat classic 2600 SZ to promote modern Zagato creations in comparative photoshoots accentuating the common typical brand design.
