Historic heavyweights

Motorsport history’s heavyweights – that’s how we’d describe the 10 cars that form Winning Numbers: The First, The Fastest, The Famous at the Petersen in Los Angeles, which runs until 19 January 2020. Owned by Bruce Meyer, the stalwart of the Southern Californian classic car scene and co-founder of the Petersen itself, the collection includes such groundbreaking competition cars as the 1957 Ferrari 625/250 Testa Rossa billed as ‘the winningest Ferrari road racer of all time’, the Kremer Porsche 935 K3 that claimed outright victory at Le Mans in 1979, and the very first production Shelby Cobra, CSX2001 from 1962. There’s also the 1929 Ford ‘747’ Bonneville in which Meyer himself hit 204mph on the famous Utah salt flats, in addition to the 1962 Greer Black Prudhomme dragster, with which its creator Don Prudhomme won 237 races. Winning Numbers is the first of three ‘California Collecting’ exhibitions, highlighting special collections residing in the Golden State.
