Launched in Europe in 2013, and two years later in North America, the Mercedes-Benz G 65 AMG—later known as the Mercedes-AMG G 65—was revealed as a twin-turbocharged V-12 iteration of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, more commonly known as the “G-Wagen”.
Built to commemorate the end of G 65 production, Mercedes-AMG announced the G 65 Final Edition in October 2017. Limited to 65 units worldwide, the commemorative model was powered by an updated version of the company’s V-12 powerplant that produced 621 horsepower and 737 ft lb of torque. AMG revised the ignition system, fitting 12 twin-spark ignition units that optimised combustion and allowed for maximum efficiency. The car was electronically limited to 230 km/h and could reach 100 km/h in a blisteringly fast 5.3 seconds. Each Final Edition was finished in black, with 21-inch matte bronze wheels, and an interior finished in black Nappa leather with contrasting brown stitching and carbon fibre trim.
Ordered new and delivered to Kuwait, this example is said to have been used sparingly and kept in storage among its first owner’s collection, where it remained until being sold in 2019. Under current ownership, this G 65 Final Edition was imported into Switzerland, and has been little used since. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer was noted as displaying just 163 km.
For over 40 years, the G-Wagen has been considered the pinnacle of off-road, four-wheel-drive luxury. With only 65 examples produced and just two owners from new—who covered very little distance behind the wheel of this special car—this G 65 is arguably one of the finest examples of the Final Edition on offer today.
Please be aware there will be a delay to the buyer being able to collect this car until the registration process is complete. Once registered, the buyer will be able to arrange collection from Zurich, Switzerland.
