In 1967 the Aston Martin DBS was launched with the intention of replacing the DB6, but production of the DB6 continued until 1970. In response to market demand, a V8 was also developed.

In 1966, Milan design agency Touring had been commissioned to design the replacement for the DB6 and the agency delivered two designs of striking prototypes before going bankrupt.

William Towns was recruited to finalize the design of the car and it was unveiled at Blenheim Palace on September 25, 1967 as a limited edition. In its original form, the DBS would have a six-cylinder in standard or Vantage form as used in the DB6. The original plan was to use an all-new V8 engine, but it was not ready in time.

The Aston Martin DBS had a 286 hp six-cylinder engine that provided a top speed of 210 km/h and a sprint to the hundred in 7.1 seconds.
