Aufbau: V8

Chassis Number: BC168XA, The underpinnings of the Continental Flying Spur were determined by the S type Bentley Saloon of the mid fifties. The model had already astounded the worlds press with its level of refinement, ride and its ability to annihilate great distances. In 1957 the decision collectively by Rolls-Royce and HJ Mulliner was made to sign off production of the Flying Spur. This would now give the Continental the practicality of a four-dour world class tourer. Indeed the Continental was to become synonymous with the very rich and famous. Powered by the 6.2 litre V8 with slight engine upgrades for 1963 the Flying Spur also gained the four headlight front-end. This 1963 S3 'Flying Spur' is an exceptional example. Supplied new by Kennings of London to Mr L Townson on 18th June, the factory build sheet in the car file confirms several special features. These include a capping rail in yaumol, electrically operated door windows, door visors with side position clips, a radio and electric aerial. The discerning Mr Townson also wanted to be seen as well as heard, requesting that a horn that he supplied to Mulliner be fitted. Remaining in England until the late eighties, when it was purchased by American collector Richard Straman who kept the car for personal use until 2007. While in his possession we understand the car had a thorough overhaul, re-paint in a beautiful Oxford Blue and re-upholstered with correct Connolly beige leather. In 2007 the Flying Spur was re-imported back to the UK, and had a significant amount of time and money spent on the mechanics over the next three years, bringing it into fine running order to match the beautiful coachwork and interior. It is complete with extensive records documenting the restoration process, mainly carried out by Phantom Motor Cars Limited in Surrey and L.T. Classics of London. The most recent owner, a European classic car collector, purchased the car in 2010 and had it thoroughly prepared for regular use, including uprating the cooling system to cope with the Mediterranean climate and having a complete brake system overhaul. This work was done by a very well-known and experienced Bentley Specialist in London, Chelsea Workshop, and is all documented in the extensive paperwork file supplied with the car. In the same time, the complete woodwork has been totally refurbished and compliments the high quality upholstery. Everything in this car is correct and presents superbly well, from the original and complete tool box to the -Flying B- mascot gracing the long bonnet. Now this well-travelled motor car is ready for the next owner to enjoy cruising in comfort and class. Supplied with the car is the extensive file describing the restoration.
