Beschreibung

Two-time participant in the Carrera Panamericana
Built without compromise for the toughest race in the world
Fourth and third place in class in 2014 and 2017
With Austrian road approval

This Mustang Fastback is anything but a pony – it's a real racehorse, bred for one of the toughest road races in the world: the legendary "La Carrera Panamericana". Built in Upper Austria by Custom Speed, it successfully competed in 2014 and 2017, demonstrating what American metal is capable of in the right hands.

Under the bonnet is no ordinary small block, but an uncompromisingly built Ford Racing 302 cui V8. Inside, an Eagle crankshaft, Comp Cam camshaft, World Products cylinder heads, a Holley carburettor and an MSD ignition system deliver peak performance. Power is transmitted to the legendary Ford 9-inch rear axle via a Richmond Super T10 four-speed transmission, while a Brembo racing brake system from NASCAR ensures that the power is tamed again.

The result: 489 hp at 5,900 rpm, 540 Nm of torque, 0–100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 248 km/h – impressive figures for a Mustang from the 1960s, but if you want to survive in Mexico and win more than just flower pots, there's no room for half measures.

Visually, the fastback remains true to its classic lines – its design is based on the GT350H "Rent-a-racer" that Carroll Shelby built for Hertz back in the day. But beneath the classic exterior beats the heart of a powerful racing car built to win. The tyres reveal at first glance that someone was serious about this. The cockpit and, at the latest, a look under the bonnet leave no doubt about that.

The Mustang was finished the day before it was shipped to Mexico. A test drive revealed that the exhaust was too loud, resulting in a night shift. The second test drive was then already the first stage of the race. Any doubts about whether the material would hold up were dispelled after just a few kilometres. In the end, it finished fourth in its class and 14th overall – both impressive testimonials to the skills of man and machine.

Three years later, it even made it onto the podium in its class. Third place was equivalent to eleventh place overall. When the owner talks about these two adventures today, you can see that certain sparkle in his eyes. He himself says that his impressions of the Carrera – from the speed of the car to the friendliness of the people – have left a lasting impression on him and will remain in his memory forever. It is perhaps the last great adventure in historic motorsport – something you have to experience to understand.

This Mustang Fastback now offers the opportunity to do just that. It even has Austrian registration for motorsport events and test drives. And there are certainly plenty of opportunities to test it. Unchanged since the last Carrera, it tells the story of its adventures. It is now up to the new owners to write new chapters.
