Beschreibung
It was in 1948 that Wilhelm Karmann bought a VW Type 1 and converted it into a four-seater cabriolet. Thus was born the Beetle Cabriolet, which began production in 1949 at Karmann in Osnabrück.
The cabriolet was more than a hooded brim. To compensate for the stiffness lost when the roof was removed, the sills were reinforced longitudinally and also in the transverse reinforcements of the bodywork. The lower corners of the door openings had curved welded ribs and the doors had secondary alignment rails on the B-pillar.
The hood uses an internal coating that hides the opening mechanism and the cross bars of its structure, with 25mm of insulating material. The rear window was tempered glass and after 1968 it had an electric heater.
The Cabriolet was generally more equipped than the Closed Scraper. It had two rear ashtrays, pockets in both doors, a vanity mirror on the passenger side, gravel rear guards, and, until 1969, chrome wheel trim rings. Many of these items were not available on other versions of the Beetle until the introduction of the optional «L» (Luxus) package in 1970.
After a series of technical and stylistic changes to Karmann's cabriolet (corresponding to the many changes and changes introduced over the course of the model's evolution), the last of 331,847 cabriolets left the production line on 10 January 1980.
This 1975 1303 Cabriolet is in excellent condition.
