Beschreibung
The original Porsche 911 with its famous, distinctive and durable design was introduced in the autumn of 1963 and built until 1989. Mechanically, it was notable for being rear-engined and air-cooled. From its inception, the 911 was modified both by private racing teams and the Porsche factory itself for racing, rallying and other automotive competitions. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911 derived 935 which won Le Mans as well as other major sports cars races.
The pre-impact bumper 911S 2.4 was made from 1972 to 1973. In 1972 the cars left the production line with the oil filler cap located behind the righthand door; however, it was not unusual for drivers to mistake it with the fuel flap, which in turn ensured steady business in the Porsche garages. This feature was withdrawn after just one year, making the “Oelklappe” a rare and coveted item with Porsche producing just 1,430 of these examples.
The 1972 model is therefore regarded as the perfect handling 911 and the most desirable. The 2.4 S produced 190bhp at 6500rpm with a compression ratio of 8.5:1 that gave it a projected top speed of 147mph, nearly equalling the performance of the infamous production homologation special, the legendary 1973 RS which was based on it.
The 911S 2.4 Coupe we are pleased to offer for sale was produced in left-hand drive and was supplied new to Switzerland in 1972. The car was specified from new in Signal Yellow with a Black Leatherette interior. It was also optioned with the desirable Koni Dampers Front & Rear, Recaro Sports Seats, 90-Litre Fuel Tank, and 4 Speakers in Doors.
In 2017, the car was treated to a full nut and bolt restoration with renowned specialists Early 911s. The restoration included a bare metal respray in its stunning original Signal Yellow and a full interior retrim in Black leather with Houndstooth inserts. Showing just 1,500 miles since restoration, this desirable 2.4 S ‘Oelklappe’ would make a fine addition to any Porsche collection. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
