Ferdinand Porsche’s legendary 356 was first brought to life in a small workshop in Gmünd, Austria in 1948. Increased demand led to production shifting in 1950 to Stuttgart, where the now steel-bodied cars were assembled by Karosserie Reutter. Initially built with a split windscreen, in 1952 the styling was refined with a more modern one-piece “bent-window”, This car offered by us is the last evolution of the Pre-A series before moving on to the A T-1.

According to a copy of its factory Kardex, this  highly desirable “Pre-A” examples 356 1500 left the factory on 21 February 1955. Finished in Fish-Silver Grey (5406B) and first fitted with a 1,488 cc engine, was supplied new to US Market. The early years of this car are not known, but in early 2000 the car was imported to Italy from California State in working condition with many original parts still in place, some bodywork was done and then it was forgotten. In 2015 the car was purchased by our mandatory which requires an assembly of the car by installing new red leather upholstery with matching carpet and a total overhaul of the mechanics. The car was subsequently used very little and last autumn a major bodywork job was carried out to bring it to the correct shade of 5406B grey and new 16″ wheels and tyres were supplied to bring it up to original specification. Much attention is paid to the mechanical part, unfortunately the original equipment engine is not present in the car but a similar engine from 1956 branded KD is installed in it and mounts pistons with a larger displacement guaranteeing notable performance to the car, even the gearbox is updated to a more modern version to guarantee reliability given the greater power provided by the engine, the original gearbox is supplied with the car.

Today the car is in perfect aesthetic condition, the red leather interior has seen minimal use and is still in excellent condition, the updated mechanics make it very fun and fast to use and the supply of the original gearbox makes restoring it to the original specifications very simple, the car is supplied with ASI certification and an ACI/CSAI Fiche and photographic documentation certifying the work carried out.
