Zum Verkauf steht ein Mercedes-Benz W111 280 SE 3.5 Coupé in Weiß mit grünem Interieur, dessen Historie sich außergewöhnlich klar und nachvollziehbar darstellen lässt. Das Coupé wurde am 06.05.1970 in München an einen Verlag ausgeliefert und blieb trotz insgesamt drei Haltereinträgen bis 1996 durchgehend im Familienbesitz. Erst danach wechselte der Wagen erstmals außerhalb der Familie den Eigentümer. Dieser hielt das Fahrzeug nur ein Jahr, bevor es 1997 vom letzten Besitzer übernommen wurde, der noch im selben Jahr eine umfassende Restaurierung in Auftrag gab. Die Arbeiten wurden 1999 abgeschlossen und sind detailliert dokumentiert.

Bereits beim Erstbesitzer erhielt der Wagen im Jahr 1977 ein Austauschgetriebe, das von der Mercedes-Benz Niederlassung München verbaut wurde. Diese Maßnahme ist vollständig belegt, unter anderem durch das originale Tauschaggregatheft. Im Zuge der Restaurierung Ende der 1990er-Jahre wurde zudem der Motor ersetzt; der originale Motor ist jedoch vollständig vorhanden und liegt ausgebaut bei. Die durchgehend nachvollziehbare technische Entwicklung des Fahrzeugs wird von mehreren über die Jahre erstellten Gutachten untermauert, zuletzt 2025 mit einer Bewertung von Note 2.

Die Dokumentation dieses Coupés ist außergewöhnlich umfangreich und umfasst den originalen Pappdeckelbrief, die originale Datenkarte, das Serviceheft, das Tauschaggregatheft, eine vollständige fotografische Restaurierungsdokumentation sowie sämtliche Rechnungen. Historie der Baureihe

Der Mercedes 280 SE 3.5 wurde stets als das Topmodell der W 111 Baureihe bezeichnet, welche zwischen 1959 und 1971 produziert wurde. Sowohl das Cabriolet als auch das Coupé sind Fahrzeuge der Spitzenklasse mit Stil und Eleganz.

Es dauerte zehn Jahre, bis in der Baureihe W 111 ein V8 Motor verbaut wurde. Dieser bringt mit seinen 3499 cm³ Hubraum damals erstaunliche 200 PS auf die Straße. Der Wagen wurde allerdings nicht nur technisch, sondern auch optisch optimiert. Die Frontpartie wurde mit einer flacheren Motorhaube und einem niedrigeren Kühlergrill versehen – wodurch auch die Bezeichnungen „Hoch- & Flachkühler“ entstanden sind.

Die Flachkühler (und damit auch unser W 111) gelten heute als die begehrteste Variante. Besonders wertvoll sind diese Fahrzeuge auch wegen ihrer geringen Stückzahl. Von dem 280 SE 3.5 Coupé wurden zwischen 1969 und 1971 gerade einmal 3270 Stück produziert.

For sale is a Mercedes-Benz W111 280 SE 3.5 Coupé in white with green interior, whose history can be presented in an exceptionally clear and traceable manner. The coupé was delivered on May 6, 1970, in Munich to a publishing house and, despite a total of three registered keepers, remained in continuous family ownership until 1996. Only thereafter did the vehicle change hands outside the family for the first time. That owner kept the car for just one year before it was acquired in 1997 by its last keeper, who commissioned a comprehensive restoration later that same year. The work was completed in 1999 and is documented in detail.

Already under the first owner, the car received a replacement transmission in 1977, installed by the Mercedes-Benz branch in Munich. This measure is fully documented, including the original exchange unit booklet. During the restoration at the end of the 1990s, the engine was also replaced; however, the original engine is still fully present and comes separately with the car. The consistently traceable technical development of the vehicle is supported by several expert reports compiled over the years, most recently in 2025 with a condition rating of “2”.

The documentation of this coupé is exceptionally extensive and includes the original cardboard registration document, the original data card, the service booklet, the exchange unit booklet, a complete photographic record of the restoration, as well as all invoices. As such, this 280 SE 3.5 Coupé presents itself as an especially authentic and carefully preserved example of one of the most sought-after models of the W111 series — a vehicle with character, history, and substance.

History of the Series

The Mercedes 280 SE 3.5 has always been referred to as the top model of the W 111 series, which was produced between 1959 and 1971. Both the convertible and the coupé are top-class vehicles with style and elegance.

It took ten years before a V8 engine was installed in the W 111 series. With a displacement of 3499 cm³, it produced an astonishing 200 hp on the road. However, the car was not only optimized technically, but also visually. The front end was given a flatter hood and a lower radiator grille - which also gave rise to the designations "high & flat radiator".

The flat radiators (and therefore also our W 111) are considered the most desirable variant today. These vehicles are also particularly valuable due to their low production numbers. Just 3270 of the 280 SE 3.5 Coupé were produced between 1969 and 1971.
