If you see this Lincoln Versailles and think: gosh! It looks a bit like a Ford Granada or Mercury Monarch from the same period, then that's correct. The Lincoln Versailles was Lincoln's first "Mid Size Sedan" and was largely based on the offerings of the aforementioned conglomerate. The Lincoln Versailles had to compete with the luxury offers from Mercedes-Benz and BMW. That scenario did not unfold as hoped. The sales numbers were disappointing and soon the curtain fell for the Lincoln Versailles. It makes a Lincoln Versailles in good condition a rarity these days. It is virtually impossible to find an original Dutch delivered Lincoln Versailles. In addition, this copy was delivered new to His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard.

The car has been very well maintained over the years and is therefore still in very good condition. The paint looks neatly cared for and only has some light traces of use here and there. The bodywork is in good condition. The sheet metal is nice and thin everywhere and fits neatly. The car is on original wheels with good tires in the correct sizes.

The inside of the Lincoln is just as beautiful as the color combination on the outside. The blue leather is in very good condition. The headliner has recently been renewed and is of course in new condition. The blue leather on the seats is in beautiful original condition and is wonderfully supple. The seats are as befits an American car: extremely comfortable. The car is of course equipped as it should be in a luxury American sedan, so you have access to Cruise Control, Air Conditioning, electrically adjustable seats and electrically operated windows.

The car is powered by a 4.9 liter Ford Windsor V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 135 hp and is especially tuned to deliver a huge amount of torque at barely revs. The technology has been very well maintained over the years. The engine delivers its power at a speed of 3,700 rpm and therefore does not have to work hard. It makes the car practically indestructible. The brakes are easy to dose and the chassis is of course tuned for relaxed touring. The suspension is buttery soft and when you steer into a bend, the car hangs comfortably on one ear like modern American cars no longer do.

The car will be delivered including some general documentation including a letter stating that the car actually belonged to Prince Bernhard. In short, a very rare original Dutch delivered Lincoln Versailles.
