Chassis No. 1J 50644 BW

Body No. 4J 50812

In many ways the ultimate Jaguar saloon of its era, this special blue and white machine was built with no expense spared for veteran Paris-Dakar rally driver Kees Tijsterman by the renowned British firm of Don Law Racing, famous for their extensive engineering and racing expertise with the marque. Mr. Tijsterman drove the car on a 17,000-km rally between Amsterdam and Beijing, completing the event, before donating it to charity; it was then sold in 2007 to fellow avid rallyist, Jim Taylor.

Mr. Taylor intended to drive the car on the 2008 centenary reenactment of the fabled New York-to-Paris Great Race, and had it further prepped by D&D Classic Auto Restoration of Covington, Ohio.

The Jaguar is outfitted with a 4.2-litre engine, built up with monster twin two-inch SU carburetors, remote oil filter, electronic ignition, stainless steel header and exhaust, with dual MSD electronic ignition systems, and supported by braided stainless steel fuel lines, remote fuel filter, aluminum radiator, and special cooling fans. Power is delivered through a five-speed manual gearbox. The chassis is ruggedly engineered, with four-wheel disc brakes and knock-off chrome wire wheels shod with Firestone all-terrain tires. Louvers were added to the hood for further engine bay cooling, and the hood itself is spring-locked in the front. Oversized fog lights were fitted, along with tow hooks front and rear, and racing side-view mirrors. Within, the driver and navigator ride on Recaro-style racing bucket seats, surrounded by a full roll cage and a lockbox in the rear seat, and facing a leather-wrapped racing steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, and an upgraded stereo system. Accompanying is a thorough history file documenting both the original build and Taylor sorting, including many invoices from the latter, as well as original British registration documents.

Having recorded 69,295 miles at the time of cataloging, this Jaguar is ready for many more – in whatever scenario the new owner may envision!
