Beschreibung
The sensuous and fluid Sprint Speciale is unlike any other production sports car. Designed by Franco Scaglione, who also had penned the radical Alfa Romeo B.A.T. show cars, the beguiling Sprint Speciale remained essentially unchanged throughout production, with later-series cars benefiting from the larger 1600 engine, front disc brakes, and suspension improvements.
This example was built for the North American market and sold new in Phoenix. The Sprint Speciale was carefully preserved under long-term ownership until the 1980s, when the car found its way to Connecticut, having accumulated only 51,000 miles. At that time, it was mechanically freshened, and a periodcorrect engine was installed. The original body and floor remain today in particularly nice condition. The current owner acquired the car in 2013 and has performed a comprehensive front suspension rebuild, front brake service, and other service as needed.
Today, this Alfa Romeo presents as a beautiful combination of originality and careful restoration, preserving factory artistry through decades of thoughtful stewardship. The ideal combination of dark blue paint and red interior are charmingly 1960s Italian, revealing refined interior accents residing within the dramatic exterior. A veteran of multiple concours showings, this dynamic Sprint Speciale remains a thoroughly unique and futuristic expression of unbridled Mid-Century design.
